Interior and exterior components for the Imperio tram in Romania

Following the successful collaboration on the modernisation of the GT4 tram, the Romanian manufacturer commissioned us again – this time to supply GRP components for the three-section low-floor Imperio tram.

Initially, the plan was to adopt the existing components with only minor changes. During the joint development process, however, it became clear that the ventilation system, passenger interior, driver’s cab and front mask required substantial redesign. Among other changes, the air ducts were moved from the ceiling into the side walls, and the headlamp positions were adapted to meet current EU requirements.

Short development and production lead time

We received the first project data in February 2019. Toolmaking began in July, the front mask was completed in October, and the first complete component set was delivered in November. In December, our team supported the customer during on-site installation.

Ongoing coordination was handled primarily through digital channels. This allowed changes to be assessed quickly and incorporated into engineering and production without delay. A complete component set for a three-section tram can be transported efficiently in a single lorry.

Certified materials are used for the interior. The design complies, among other standards, with the requirements of UIC 564-2 and EN 45545-2.

The Imperio is a fully low-floor tram with a bright, spacious interior that can be customised to the operator’s requirements.
